February 14

Today we drove to Fort Fisher, which is approximately 2.5 hours away from Fayetteville. It took us 4.5 hours. This was a little bit my fault, because I was in charge of reading the directions. After this particular wrong turn, Andrew told me he was going to kick me out of the car so I'd be left to eat hay with the cows. This comment led to a remarkably long debate about cows, hay, cud, and udders.

When we finally arrived at Fort Fisher, we took Avery to the North Carolina Aquarium. Avery loves looking at fish, so we look for good aquariums and museums to visit.

Avery was not too sure about the sting rays.

Mommy was not too sure about the giant spiny lobsters.

Avery liked the tigerfish the best!

After the aquarium, we took Avery to the Fort Fisher Civil War Museum. We tried to for a photo op with the preserved cannon, but Avery was less than thrilled.

Once Avery was feeling up to it, we took her to see the ocean for the first time!

It was windy, but almost 60 degrees! Nice weather for walking around and sightseeing. Andrew does a better job of tolerating beach towns during the off-season when they aren't crowded.

Avery's favorite part of the beach was her encounter with this friendly cat.

The cat had tags, and was obviously clean and well-fed, but Andrew still asked me if we could take it home.

All in all, it was a great Valentine's Day!

Avery is our little sweetie pie :)
